Gateshead 3 Matlock 2

Gateshead FC put last weeks exit out of the FA Cup well behind them with a good win over high flying Matlock Town.

One man stole the show "DAVIE SOUTHERN"with three great goals, the Matlock keeper will be mentally scared for life at seeing Davie run the show.

Davie scored his first two goal's in the first half and scored his third just after half time.

Gateshead looked strong until after the third goal but started to relax a bit with the big lead, this invited Matlock to come forward, matlock pulled two back and grew stronger as the second half went on, but Gateshead rid the storm to clinch the win at the International Stadium.

Matlock on Saturday

Hopefully Gateshead can get a second straight win in the league on Saturday to Matlock town.

Gateshead could be set to be without schemer Steven Istead, as he limped off in last Saturdays game with Guiseley in the FA Cup.

Loan player Michael Rea could return to the starting line after no being able to play in the FA Cup as Hartlepool Utd didn't want to get their player cup tied. Other Loan player Richard Logan (on loan from Darlington, pictured below) could make his home Debut at the international Stadium on Saturday as well.

Also the word round the camp fire is that Former attacking midfielder Nicky Scaife (son of Dunston Fed manger Bob) has returned to the the club. Nicky had signed for Gateshead in pre-season, but returned to Whitby Town soon before the season started.

The Heed Army Blog predicts a 2-1 Win for Gateshead.

Hall of Fame: Bowey

Steve Bowey will always be remembered for lighting up the pitch, if it wasn't with his skills with a ball it would be his hair.

Steve joined Gateshead from Bristol Rover's the season before Gateshead's Last season in the National Conference 95/96season.

Bowser played in midfield with Paul Proudlock and kenny Lowe in his Time at Gateshead and also Dion Raitt.

Steve was part of Gateshead FA Cup Team that made it to the second in 2000, that match was one of his last for the club as Scottish Football came calling. Queen of the South was the club that was to take him to a higher level where he won a league title and cup in his first season
.

Steve Bowey has stated in Local Press that he would love to end his cerear back at Gateshead, The Heed Army can not wait to see this happen.

Bowey at the moment is back in the national Conference playing For York City, where he has scored a few goals so far the season.

Steve is one of a few names to have gone on to the higher levels in the football game from Gateshead in the past few years.

Names that include:

Rob Jones now with Scottish prem side Hibernian

John Kennedy has gone on to play for two national Conference side since playing for Gateshead, he played for Accrington Stanley and is now at Halifax Town.

Sam Russel has gone to to become Darlington number 1 goal keeper after his stint at Gateshead.

Guiseley 1 Gateshead FC 0

The magic of the FA Cup was alive for Guiseley in this afternoons game

It was even at half time 0-0 with Gateshead having the better of the play.

Guiseley missed a penalty, but soon after a Craig Baxter (according to sources) pass back to the keeper was pounced upon by the Guiseley attack to finish Gateshead off!!!

Another Year of watching others in the Cup for Gateshead Fans.

CLASSIC GATESHEAD It would Seem.

Hall Of Fame: Fletcher

Keith Fletcher has to be one of the most entertaining Forwards to have played for Gateshead in the past ten years.

Keith joined Gateshead after the relegation from the national conference and didn't seem to be much of a player, but after a month or so the Gateshead fans started to see the genius of the legend. His goals would range from over-head kicks to 20 yard curlers. Not only could he score the goals he made them with great vision.

Fletch even got to play for his country of Grenada in 1999 for the World Cup Qualifiers for the 2002 World Cup (scoring for his country as well) while still a Gateshead player.

Fletch made 73 apps for Gateshead and scored 38 goals between 98-01.

Favourite memory of Kieth Fletcher:

While playing against Telford in an FA Cup replay at the International Stadium, Keith was about 15 yards offside and Gateshead was on the attack. The ball was passed forward and keith knew he was offside while Steve preen was running onto it, so Fletcher fell over (like he was shot) so not to be inter fearing with play, and Gateshead went on to score. The man was a Legend.

With Gateshead winning that game they reached the first round proper of the FA Cup to play Cambridge Utd, but lost 1-0 and kieth was sent off in that game as well (but he got us there so, we forgave him).

Tow Law 1 Gateshead FC 2

Not the best game to watch, but it was the result that matters. The main thing is that the mighty Gateshead FC are through to the next round of the Durham cup.

Gateshead fell behind, but showed what it takes to get the win when Steven Istead grabbed a deserved leveller before half time slotting home past the keeper (who was former Gateshead keeper Liam Connell, pictured below).

After half time Gateshead started to show their class with good build up and passing display on the slanty pitch.

A hand ball by a Tow Law defender gave Gateshead a penalty that finished off Tow Law, Ian Clark was the man to step up and score his second penalty in 3 games.
There will only be team ratings on FA cup games and league games, However the Heed Army Blog Man of the Match was Super Steven Istead.
Steven chased every ball, making even a lost cause ball into a half chance putting both defenders and goal keeper under pressure all game.

The Classic Fan Shot!!

Look at these two likely lads at Tow Law, Its Private Clifton and Private Smith (aka smid).
