In Review

Well the Season ended just a couple of weeks ago, and already we look to pre-season, and the sqaud and who we might sign.

Ok we finished 9th in the Unibond League in year that seemed to promise so much yet devliverd little, till the last 12 games.
That 12 game unbeaten run, which seen us defeat two different league leaders (AFC Telford and Witton Albion) landed Ian Bogie the Job as manger on a full time basis. Bogie seemed to get that cutting edge from a squad that laked drive in the first half of the season, and got more.

When Tony Lee was appoint as manager in summer 06, the fans thought he we are the manger who won the ANL league title the season before and many Signing who had 100's of games in the pro game under their belt. League title hear we come was the cry, yet it wasn't to be for Tony Lee to lead us to it.

Such signing's as Steven Istead and Andy Appleby Flattered to deceive after signing From Legue Two Side Hartlepool Utd, and Ian Clark a former Darlington and Hartlepool Utd Winger had a injury hit season, which hit his form badly.

Yet in this disappointment, signing lights came in Gatesheads sqaud Craig Baxter who signed after being released by Newcastle Utd, Chris Hughes signed From Scarborough and Steve Salvin signed from Newcastle Blue Star. All battle and showed flare you would normally see for Brazil (ok maybe not as good as Brazil, but they entertained the HEED ARMY).

Three other player's also need special Praise, the first of the players would have to be Jamie Curtis. The flame haired centre back made his name first on the team sheet this season, with commanding performances and some good goals to his name. Yet after breaking his toe he struggled with form after christmas, but this was just a blip for the big man.

the second player that shined like star is Craig "Nelly" Nelthorpe, the on loan winger from Doncaster Rover made the left wing his own. Creating goals from thin air and scoring them as well, a joy to behold when he was on the ball!!

Last and not least Davie "Goal Machine" Southern, where do you start with the man who scored 31 goals for Gateshead FC this last football year. A man of the fans, always has time to talk and give a honest conversation on how the team played.
Winning golden boot as well he was the League leading goal scorer, lets hope we have him next season.

Next year seems to be a big one for GFC with hopefully news on the new ground being announced in late May. To see all the details of where the ground could possibly be visit www.homeoftheheed.co.uk

HEED ARMY TO ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
