Our Friends Across the Pond!!!!!!!!!

We have once again had contact with our friend Don from The DCenters Blog, to tell us about how DC United's season is going so far in the MSL. Also we have his thoughts on David Beckham Joining the MSL.

Don's DC United Updated:

United had opened its regular season in a disappointing fashion. Since then we have rebounded somewhat, although our most recent performance was a dismal draw against Dallas which saw us surrender 3 goals after the 50th minute. We're heading into a mid-season break, then we have 15 games to finish the season, plus the playoffs, and also the debut of the US/Mexico "SuperLiga" which will see Club America and Monarcas Moreila come to our stadium in a few weeks.

Offseason acquisition Luciano Emilio has a good shot at winning the Golden Boot having tallied 10 goals this season, and Jaime Moreno represented our side well in his time with Bolivia during the Copa America. Vetran Ben Olsen is also having a wonderful season, but our backline is in a bit of turmoil. Bryan Namoff has battled injuries, Josh Gros is completing a somewhat difficult transition from midfield to Left Back, and bobby Boswell and new acquisition Greg Vanney have yet to mesh fully.

Still, the season looks positive, if we can string some results together we might make a run at that elusive 5th championship.

As for David "
Golden Balls" Beckham, he and the LA Galaxy visit DC in August, and tickets are well sold (a crowd of at least 50,000 is not unreasonable). I'm pleased to see Beckham in MLS, especially given that he's not all dried up and feeble yet. Still, I'm not sure how he'll handle the very hot and humid US venues, and the team he is on is utterly awful so far. I think he'll be a positive impact for LA, but I don't think he'll transform that team all by himself. DC United will, of course, not be intimidated by Becks, seeing as how we battled Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw last season (of course, it was a preseason friendly for Madrid, and all that such a fixture implies, but still it did the heart good). I am pleased that Beckham is in the USA, and pleased that he's with LA, a team that DC fans do not particularly have any fondness for, so we don't have any obligation to root for him.

Anyways, best of luck on the upcoming campaign, and congratulations on the strong win in the friendly against Morpeth Town. I'd love to keep in contact, and keep my readers up to date on the Gateshead 2007-2008 season.

A big Thank You to Don from the DCenters!!
