Prescot Cables Preview

The Tynesiders travel to Prescot Cables Chasing there fourth win in as many games.

Prescot sit 14th in the UniBond and still need points to stay away from the relegation zone. They are only two points above the drop zone and 3 points against the Heed on Tuesday night would go along way to helping Cables secure their UniBond status.

Ian Bogie will have the tough decision weather or not to bring leading goal scorer Graeme Armstrong (pictured) back into the starting line up with Southern and Brayson both linking up well on Saturday making the opening goal against Matlock Town.

Here is a clip of Prescot scoring against Ossett last season., lets hope we only see Heed Players doing this on Tuesdays night.

Gateshead 2 Matlock 0

A rain soaked Gateshead edged out Matlock Town in the muddy conditions.

The Tynesiders settled the quicker but didn’t dominated until midway through the first half, when Davie Southern (pictured after his goal) pounced on Paul Brayson cross in the six yard box to slot home the opening goal.

Steve Bowey gave a captains performance in midfield, if he couldn’t get his foot to it, he would throw his body at it. Either way the ball wasn’t getting past him.
Likewise was Phil Turnbull, he was always calm and collected on the ball.

Just before half time Gateshead grabbed their second goal through a James Curtis header, he powered home from 12 yards to leave the Matlock Keeper no chance of getting to it.

After the break Gateshead found it hard to break down Matlock, Town closed down and kept the Heed in their own half for much of the second half.

Paul Musselwhite (pictured making a vital save) was called into action a few times, but coped very well and didn’t panic.

Matlock Preview

The Gladiators make the long trip from Derbyshire on Saturday looking for victory after twice not being able to beat the Tynesiders this season. A 2-1 defeat in the FA Trophy in November at the hands of Gateshead followed the 1-1 draw in the league in September.

On Bank Holiday Matlock suffered a 3-1 defeat away to Hednesford, with Simon Barraclough grabbing Matlock Towns only goal. Barraclough also got on the score sheet with two goals in the good Friday match at home to Buxton which they won 3-0.


Barraclough will be wanting to add to his 3 goals from last weekend and Gateshead will have to be on guard for this fox in the box.
As his goal against Leek Town in January shows.

The Heed currently has three players in double figures in the goal charts this season, those players being Graeme Armstrong, Davie Southern and Jamie Harwood.

Knocking on the door of double figures for the heed this season are another three players who all have nine goals, Wayne Phillips, Phil Cave and Super Steve Salvin (pictured).
Could we have 4 or 5, maybe even 6 player with double figures on Saturday evening?????

Ossett Town 0 Gateshead 3

Gateshead took the lead after just 15 seconds, with left wing wonder Wayne Phillips grabbing the early goal. It was Paul Brayson who passed the long diagonal ball to Phillips to set him up for the goal.

The marvel that is Craig “Beckham” Baxter (pitcured) doubled the Heed’s lead with a shot that found the top corner, this came after Kris Gates battled to get the ball through to Baxter and he sent the travelling Heed Army wild in celebration!

The scored stayed the same as the Tynesiders had done enough stay onto at half time.

After the break Ian Bogie’s men stretched there lead further with Wayne “Wonder Boy “ Phillips (pictired) bagging his second of the match, and his 9th goal of the season.

Another Ossett Preview

On the back of Good Friday’s 3-0 win over Kendal Town, The Tynesiders travel to Ossett Town looking for cement their place in the Play-Offs.

Ossett Also won on Friday, they beat Frickley Athletic 3-2 with Midfeilder Aiden Savory netting for Ossett.

Town currently sit 10th in the UniBond Premier Table, they have six matches left this season and are safe from the drop but fall short of making a push for the Play-Off’s.

Ossett have experienced goal keeper Paul Cuss who was once on the books of Huddersfield Town, the Heed front line will have to be on top form to make the Ossett net ripple.

Sadly we couldn’t find Any Ossett goals, but here is some scored against Ossett Town from their match with Hednesford earlier in the season

Hopefully the Heed Army can come away with all three points and a bag full of goals!!

Gateshead 3 Kendal 0

Gateshead gave the Heed Army a big lift with a commanding home performance in testing weather conditions.

In the strong winds and spells of sleet and snow the Tynesiders took the lead through a Phil Cave (pictured) penalty, this was Cave’s 9th for the Heed after his summer move from Newcastle United.

Heed legend Steve Bowey doubled the lead with a header on 56 minutes. Then on 69 minutes Paul Brayson grabbed his 3rd goal of the season in Heed shirt.

Hopefully Gateshead can carry the form from this game into Bank Holiday Monday match at Ossett.

Durham Cup Final

As like the club site the Heed Army Blog would like to push the Cup Final in May, hopefully we can make this a Final to remember.

Did Brunskill make the right move??????

Two Months ago Gateshead made a transfer offer for Whitby Towns goal machine that is Danny Brunskill.

Brunskill decided not to take the move to Promotion chasing Gateshead, But did he make the right move????

Currently Brunskill is one of the UniBond’s tops goal scorers as he has been for near 7 years. Sadly Whitby are sitting in the drop zone, but Danny’s goals don’t seems to be enough to keep them out of the relegation zone at the moment.



His loyalty to Whitby has to be commended in the day and age when football players chase the bigger and better deal. Will Danny be looking at his current situation and think I could have been chasing promotion on Tyneside.

If Whitby loose the fight against the drop (god forbid, as we need all north east teams to stay up) will Brunskill be tempted to join up with the Heed Army.

Easter Weekend Preview

Gateshead will be hoping for a Good Friday this weekend for the visit of Kendal Town to the International Stadium.


The Heed will want to cement their Play Off Spot, and Fridays game will be the perfect starting place to gain 3 points over the Easter weekend.



Lee Ashcroft will bring his Kendal side to Gateshead looking for vital point to help Kendal stay clear of the relegation zone.



Kendal Town currently sit two points above the drop zone, they will no doubt want to grab some points and will be pushing for goals.




Paul Brayson will be available after his one match suspension he served over the weekend.



The second game over Easter weekend is away to Ossett Town, a must win game as is the Kendal Match.
Ossett are mid table and seem to be safe from relegation but out of reach of the Play Off’s.



If Gateshead can take six points over the Easter weekend it would surely gave them a great chance of staying in the Play Off’s for the rest of the season.



The Heed Army Blog predicts a 3-1 win over Kendal and a 2-1 win over Ossett.

Hednesford 3 Gateshead 2

The Tynesiders suffered yet another Defeat in there push for a play off place on Saturday.

Hednesford Town out played a lack lustre Gateshead lost 3-2, and slipped to 4th in the UniBond league table.

Phil Cave and Wayne Phillips scored for the heed but it wasn’t enough to get anything from this game.

The Heed Army knows, Things can only get better!!!

Gateshead 0 Witton Albion 2

Disappointment was the dish of the day at the International Stadium on Wednesday night, as hopes of winning the league were dashed.

The league leaders Witton came out on top of what was one of the most important games of the season.
368 people witnessed the crunch match which seen Albion’s Brownhill and Mcpherson grab the goals to give the Heed the hammer blow.

Witton Albion’s 18 point lead over the Tynesiders is too bigger gap to claw back, if promotion is to be achieved it will be through the play off’s.

As the depressed Heed Army drifted off into the dark of the night with sad faces, no doubt the player and coaching staff felt the same.


If ever a theme tune should be played at the end of the game it would have been this on Wednesday night.

Witton Albion Preview

The Heed’s biggest game of the season so, will happen 7.45pm at Gateshead International Stadium on Wednesday night.

League leaders Witton Albion are the visitors and they will want to wrap up the points to help them get another foot up the championship ladder.
This will be the third match between Witton and Heed this season, with Gateshead winning one of them games and the other ending in a 2-2 draw at Witton.

Witton currently have a 15 point lead on Gateshead in the UniBond league table, but Gateshead do have three games in hand on Albion. If and it’s a big if the Heed win their games in hand and beat Witton on Wednesday night they would only be 3 points behind Witton in the race for automatic promotion.

Ian Bogie may have a Injury worry with striker Paul Brayson hobbling at the end of Saturdays extra time and penalty battle with Skelmersdale according to eye an witnesses. Fingers crossed he can shake it off. Wednesday’s match is the last match Brayson will be available before his suspension starts on Saturday.

Skelmersdale 2 Gateshead 2 (4-2 after Penalty's)

Sadly the Tynesiders failed to make their second Cup Final of the season, after falling short in a penalty shoot out.

Skelmersdale took the lead on 6 minutes, with United’s Almond grabbing the goal. Skelmersdale held on to that 1-0 lead till half time.
After half time Gateshead levelled the score with Graeme Armstrong netting on the 64th minute.

Sadly the score stayed the same until full time and the game went into Extra Time.
Jamie Harwood edged the Heed in front on the 92minute, this goal looked to be the winner. Sadly James Curtis (pictured) fouled a Skelmersdale player in the box to gave away a crucial penalty on 113 minutes.
George Donnelly put the penalty away, and reportedly celebrated by punching James Curtis . Donnelley seen red.

Extra Time came to an end, Penalty’s was to decide the winners of this eventful match .

Veteran Paul Musselwhite saved the opening penalty to gave the Heed a flying start, followed by Craig Baxter’s powerful penalty kick.
Sadly Skelmersdale did not miss another penalty, Steve Bowey and Phil Cave (pictured)both missed their spot kicks, with only Harwood scoring the Heeds only other spot kick.

Final Penalty score 4-2.
Hopefully Ian Bogie can lift his boys for the will be the most important game of the season on Wednesday night. Witton Albion are the visitors and the league leader will be a shoe in for the title if they can defeat the Tynesiders.

Skelmersdale Peview: League Cup Semi final

Two busses full are making the journey to Skelmersdale for the UniBond League Cup Semi Final. There will be over 100 Heed fans making there presence felt in song.

Gateshead go into the Semi Final unbeaten in 12 games, and will be chomping at the bit to reach a second up cup final of the season.
While Gateshead will be favourites for the clash, Skelmersdale will fancy their chances as they are pushing for promotion from the UniBond Div 1 North. They currently sit top of the league and will want to show why they are top of their league.

Skelmersdale United’s danger man will be George Donnelly, no doubt he will be wanting to add to his 21 goals he has already scored. While at the other end of affair Ryan Mcmahon will be trying to keep the Tynesiders from putting the ball in his net.

Paul Brayson will no doubt want to help the Heed reach a second Final as he is not eligible to play in the Durham Cup Final at the Stadium Of Light.

Ian Bogie (pictured)will be wanting to set his stall out early at Skelmersdale, Does he go 433 or 442 ??? Only time will tell. The strike forces of Brayson, Armstrong and Southern will put the fear of got in to any UniBond defence.

Gateshead 2 Lincoln Utd 0

Gateshead left it late to seal the win over Lincoln Utd on Wednesday night.

Steve Salvin (pictured) opened the scoring with his 9th goal of the season on the 83rd minute, then Paul Brayson doubled the lead on the 89th minute to seal the 3 points.

This result leaves the Tynesiders stay in 3rd place in the UniBond, but the heed have reduced the gap to just 12 points on leaders Witton. With two games still in hand on Witton and a home game against the leaders, if the heed can with them games it would leave Gateshead only 3 points behind.

The Dream is still alive!!!

Gateshead 1 eastwood Town 1

The Tynesiders grabbed a last minute equalizer to spare their blushes at home to Eastwood Town on Saturday afternoon.

Jamie Harwood was the man to grab the 90th minute goal, that kept the Heed third in the UniBond table.
New striker Paul Brayson seen red after a second yellow card, this came after Eastwood had also been reduced to 10 men earlier in the match.

A disappointing match made even more disappointing when the news that league leaders Witton Albion had lost.
