Play-Offs In Reach?????????

With Gatesheads recent good form could we reach the Play-Offs????????

The results from Gatesheads last five games are:

4-0 win away to Mossley
0-0 at home to North Ferriby Utd
6-0 away win at Grantham Town
3-0 away win at Ashton Utd
4-3 home win to AFC Telford
These Results have lifted Gateshead to 10th in the Unibond Premier Division, only seven points behind the Play-offs.
If caretaker manager Ian Bogie can Keep his side in winning ways and results go our way, our season might not be over.

Gateshead 4 AFC Telford 3

Gateshead fans often wonder why do we follow our team around the country and support them win lose or draw.

Gateshead Fans Got their answer on Monday the 26th of March at the international stadium!!!

In front of a bumper crowd of 500 plus the Heed Army took on the the Unibond League leaders and show them how it was done.

Although Gateshead fell behind to a early goal from Telford, they never let there heads drop and got one back soon after.

A Davie Southern cross found Defender Jamie Curtis rising like a salmon in the box, to head a powerful header straight past the Telford keeper.

Gatesheads second goal came from a great through ball that beat the offside trap to find Mattie Mofatt who slotted the ball home like a brazilian Genius!!!!

2-1 at half time

Gateshead started the Second half in the same form as they finished the first, all over the Telford defence.

Davie Southern Bagged the third goal after a great solo run into the box, he sent the Heed Army wild in the stand!!!!

But Telford showed why they have been top of the league for much of the season and showed some fight.

A Good cross in the box gave Telford their second goal of the game with James Curtis getting a cut on his head when Telford scored from the cross.

With Curtis off the field receiving treatment for the heed injury Telford got a little bit of luck when a poor Chris Mason clearance was intercepted by the Telford forwards and his cross ended up with another Telford goal.

Its was 3-3 and the tension could of been cut with a knife!!!!!

With the minutes ticking done like hours, the ball fell to Craig "Christiano" Nelthorpe and he danced into the box to place a ball that would have brought a tear to PELE's eye in to the back of the net.

A pure moment of class and skill be the boy called NELLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Player ratings: ALL 11 out of 10!!!!!!!!

Sad News for the North East!!!!!!

After hearing about three local Northern League clubs applying to join the Unibond First Division earlier this season, i thought what a shot in the arm for North East Non-League Football.
The three Clubs in question where Newcastle Blue Star, Durham City and Consett, but i have since heard all three clubs are no longer moving up to Unibond level for different reasons.
Sad News Indeed for the North East Football Scene.

Ten years ago there was Four North East clubs playing at Unibond level, they where Blyth Spartans, Gateshead, Spennymoor Utd and Bishop Aukland (five if you include Whitby Town).
Toady there is one, Gateshead!

With Gateshead being the only club at this level from the North East we are the only club that can offer players the next step up the ladder. Ok Blyth can offer players a step up the ladder as well, but their avenues are shorter with there not being many local players playing higher than the Northern league.

The North East needs more than one team in the Unibond, the lack of players able to play at this level and higher is embarrassing.

If we look at our counterparts in Yorkshire and Greater Manchester the amount of clubs and players they have at our level is where the North East should be at!

Hopefully in the coming seasons we will see the cream of the Northern League taking a leap forward, To better their own fortunes and the fortunes of North east Non-league Football!!!!!!!!!!!

Grantham Town 0 Gateshead 6

Gateshead travelled to Grantham Town on a bitterly cold night through the sleet and snow, but the weather didn't seem to bother Gateshead as they stormed to a 3-0 in the first half.

Goals From on loan Doncaster Rovers Winger Craig "Nelly" Nelthorpe, Davie Southern (pictured Below) and Captain Marvel Steve Salvin gave Gateshead there 3-0 lead.

3-0 at Half Time

After half time Davie "The Goal Machine" Southern Bagged his 25th goal of the season, making it 4-0.

The fifth goal came from former Scarborough and Darlington Midfielder Chris Hughes, Chris added the sixth and final goal.

Full time 6-0.

This is an outstanding Result and Performance from the HEED ARMY!!!!!!!!!

Gateshead 0 North Ferriby Utd 0

The Draw was a fare result for Gateshead and North Ferriby Utd on Saturday at the International Stadium.

Both sides lacked the cutting edge in the final third of the pitch, the closest the was to a goal was in the second half when a North Ferriby Midfielder had a dig from 35 yards only to hit the wood work.

Craig Nelthorpe was in classic form running at defenders like "Christiano Ronlado", another player who caught the eye was Captain Steve Salvin. Salvin was in the mix from the start running the midfield like a general.

The referee didn't have the best of games when losing control after the North Ferriby Captain pushed Craig Nelthorpe to the ground and stood over him. If I'm not mistaken raising your hands is a straight red card, but this referee handed out a yellow. He must have been keeping the RED card for Mothers Day, i don't think his mother would have been proud of him at this match.

Exclusive message from Keith Fletcher

The Heed Army Blog is proud to have a Message to the Gateshead Fans from: THE MAN,THE GENIUS, THE LEGEND that is Keith Fletcher!!!!

Here is Keith's Message:

Hello All,

It's Fletch, I was contacted by David and invited to say a few words. My time at Gateshead was amazing, the support that I received from the fans and management is something that I remember fondly. When I left Gateshead I moved to the US and began working in my profession: I have a degree in Finance and Accounting. Today, I'm a Senior Financial Manager with the Washington DC Government, I'm married to a wonderful woman named Georgette and I've been blessed with a "look-alike" son named Kristian...he's 19 months old and loves football...wonder where he get's that from :-)
Thanks for the memories!!

Fletch.

The Heed Army Blog would like to thank Keith for his time and for sending the Message to us. All the best to Keith and his family.

Farewell Tony

The Heed Army Blog would like to wish Tony Lee all the best for the future after his dismissal from his post as Gateshead FC manager.

Tony Rejoined Gateshead for the second time last summer after a short spell as manger in the early 90's.

Tony always had time for the fans for a chit chat, his honesty made him a very like able person.

The results and season have not gone to plan this year for the Heed Army, and the club have taken action so a new manager can be put in place to start to rebuild for next season.

Derek
Bell
will take over as Manager till a replacement is found and installed.
